Wedding Dresses Inspiration from the Oscars 2017
Hollywood was abuzz with the Oscars last weekend. The 89th academy awards for 2017 alongside the Vanity Fair afterparty is always a great talking point amongst Hollywood’s elite. In true Hollywood style, there was a lot of fashion on display on the famous red carpet and I’ve curated some of the fashion finds that are great inspiration for your wedding dresses, particularly for the spring season.
This two tone, criss crossed Valentino gown worn by Halle Berry would be great for a wedding dress or second outfit. It’s a good way to incorporate your wedding colours into your dress.
Capes are still very much in season and Karlie Kloss proves that so well in this beautifully elegant white sheath Stella McCartney gown. Pair with a statement neckpiece and earrings for a strikingly dramatic look without going over the top.
Black is not a colour often associated with weddings and I certainly don’t recommend wearing a black wedding dress on your big day! (I personally, wouldn’t) However, this fitted a-line gown by Dior (worn by Kirsten Dunst) with its mini train is a popular style for weddings. It’s boned bodice and full skirt leaves you feeling like a Disney princess. Get it in white or ivory, though!
I love Viola Davis! I think she’s a great actress. This bright red sheath dress by Armani that she wore for her Oscar win is great on her dark skin tone. When choosing your dress or perhaps one for your second outfit change, go for colours that complement your skin tone so that you can shine in them.
Blush and rose gold colours dominate the fashion scene at the moment fuelled in part by the Pantone colour of pale dogwood and LaTanya Richardson’s lace number is a great example of it. Look at all that lace detailing.
Sleeves are big in weddings this year. I love this silver sequinned gown by Armani Prive worn by Isabelle Huppert. As the gown is light, soft and delicate, pair it with statement makeup i.e bold red lipstick with matching nails to bring it to life. This is great for you, the conservative bride.
This one is for you if you’re feeling a bit more daring and adventurous! Look at that thigh length slit! Chrissy Teigen wears it so well, though. Again sleeves feature here and with that thigh slit and mini train, that is sure to make a statement at your wedding! Dress by Zuhair Murad.
With embellishments like those on Jessica Oyelowo’s gown, you don’t need much accessories as the gown speaks for itself.
One of my favorites from the Oscars is this beautiful tiered Monique Lhuillier gold sequinned gown worn by Sofia Carson. This is the perfect princess dress and is great for weddings. Elegant, timeless and sophisticated all at the same time, the dress kinda says it all really…
I hope these red carpet finds inspires your search for your wedding dresses. What is your favorite wedding dress inspiration from the Oscars? Old and recent? Feel free to share!
